Glass is a fantastic material. From the time I began working with it in the mid-1970s, its possibilities and characteristics have fascinated me. My studio at Frysja, in Oslo, has given me the freedom and the time to explore the material, to experiment with my ideas and to create glass articles that reflect my personal expression.
Glass is a spontaneous, yielding and pliable material – when it is warm. It is important for me to retain some of these qualities in the finished work.
Water, ice and nature that has been transfigured by frost are elements that often inspire my works. What I wish to capture and hold in my still lifes, via the fluid, warm glass, is the form’s sensuality and character. Through the colours and intimate arrangements of the various components, I wish to tell stories and create moods that touch the viewer and elicit wonder.
